There are many benefits and services available to veterans and their families. However, these benefits are often overlooked or underutilized by those who are eligible to take advantage of them. The Monroe County Veterans Service Commission oversees the following veteran programs. |

1. VA Benefits Services The Monroe County Veterans Service Commission provides assistance to veterans and/or their dependents who are interested in or are receiving benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The assistance provided includes preparation of forms and all necessary paperwork for: Service Connected Disability Compensation Non-Service Connected (War Time) Disability Pension Death (Widow's & Children) Pension (War Time) DIC/Widow's (Service Connected Compensation) Death and Burial Benefits VA Healthcare Enrollment Assistance Headstones and Grave Markers Education & Vocational Rehabilitation |

2. Financial Assistance Emergency funds for food, clothing, housing and utilities can be provided to veterans. Any qualifying veteran, spouse, widow, or dependent of a veteran who meets the residency requirement of three months and provides all necessary information and documentation may apply for financial assistance. The following factors are considered when determining financial need: discharge records, proof of income, assets, current bills and residency. |

3. Transportation & Employment Service Transportation - Transportation can be arranged to specified VA health care sites for those who have scheduled appointments. Veterans who transport themselves to appointments are reimbursed based on the VA medical facility they utilized. Employment Info - A veterans employment representative from the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, One Stop Employment and Training Center is in our office on the second Friday of each month from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with employment information. The Key To All Services Is: Documentation Documentation - The correct documentation can help in speeding up the filing and approval process for benefits and assistance. Required is the military DD214 or discharge document. Other documents may include: marriage certificate or birth and death certificates. Evidence of 90 days of county residency is required for financial assistance. |
